Antique French Gothic Ciborium Ref 8004
Ornate French Gothic 19th Century Ciborium made in solid silver gilt.
Ciborium made by French Silversmith Antoine Jolivet, who worked in Paris from 1857 onwards.
This Ciborium is made from solid silver and is gilded all over. It bears the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's name.
The lid is finished with fine filigree work, with each panel set with a coloured stone.
Between these are four coloured enamels, depicting The Tower of David, The Fountain of Life, The Scales of Justice and The Chalice of Salvation.
The lid is surmounted with an engraved Gothic style cross.
The bowl is made in fine filigree work, with coloured red stones. Four further coloured enamels depict The Agnus Dei, The Pious Pelican, The Cedar Exalted and The Ark of the Covenant.
The circular stem is finished with decoration and beading work.
The quatrefoil knop is set with four coloured enamels of Saints, with large red stones between.
The bottom of the stem is finished with further filigree work and red stones, with gargoyles leading down to the base.
The decorative quatrefoil petalled base is set with four further enamels depicting the four Evangelists, with filigree work and the gargoyle figures between.
Overall Height to top of cross 35cm. Diameter of base 17cm; diameter of bowl 12cm; internal depth of bowl 7cm. Overall weight 1,236g.
Complete with original lined, fitted case for carrying and storage.
