Antique Gothic Chalice and Paten Ref 7841
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Gothic style made in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten both made by the French Silversmith Pierre-Henri Favier, in the latter part of the 19th century. Favier were a well respected family of Silversmiths working in France during the 19th century.
This Chalice and Paten are made from solid silver, gilded all over. Both pieces are hallmarked with the French silver mark of the period, and bear the maker's name.
The Calix is finished with six images, each in a shield; these raised figures depict Faith, Hope and Charity, with Angels set between.
The hexagonal stem is worked with Gothic style arches and leads to the hexafoil knop which has six lozenges finished with Gothic roses.
The hexafoil petalled base has raised images depicting The Crucifixion, The Baptism of Christ and The Last Supper. Between these are set instruments of the passion, including The Crown of Thorns, The Spear, The Lance.
The edge of the base is finished with fine engraving work.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten which fits the Chalice well. The Paten has a large image of the Crucifixion worked in raised figures.
Chalice Height 28.5cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 10.5cm. Diameter of Paten 17.5cm. Overall weight 1,149g.
Complete with original mushroom shaped carrying case.
