Antique Augsburg Passion Chalice Ref 9014
Antique Augsburg Passion Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice made in Augsburg dating from around 1750, in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice is hallmarked with the Augsburg silver hallmark of the 1750 period.
The blending Paten is 19th century French and is hallmarked with the French mark of this period.
The Chalice is richly finished with baroque style decoration and enamels from The Passion.
The calix to the cup is made in baroque style decorative work. It is set with three oval shaped enamels in full colour, very finely worked. These depict The Last Supper, The Garden of Gethsemane and The scourging at the pillar.
The circular stem has a rich decorative baroque style knop at the centre.
The base is circular in design and has rich baroque style decoration. It is set with three further finely detailed enamels, these depict The Crown of Thorns, Christ Fallin under the Cross and The Crucifixion
The edge of the base has a decorative shaped edge.
The blending well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has an engraved IHS design to the centre.
Chalice height 28.5cm. Base diameter 18cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 16cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 906g.
Complete with brand new lined case for carrying and storage.
