Spanish Antique Silver Ciborium Ref 8678
Antique Spanish Ciborium in Gothic style, made in Barcelona.
Early 20th century Spanish Ciborium made in solid silver gilt. The Ciborium is hallmarked with Spanish silver marks to the base & lid, and the maker's initials LBB.
The Ciborium is worked in two tone designs throughout, with the main parts gilded, and contrasting images and panels of silver.
On the lid are three circular engravings in silver, depicting The Sacred Heart of Jesus, St Joseph & Child and Our Lady.
Joining these is a rim of engraved silver with grapes and vine leaves in the design, finished with fine filigree work on the top edge.
The lid is surmounted by an ornate cross.
The calix to the bowl has three further finely engraved silver roundels. These illustrate The Betrothal of Our Lady & St Joseph, The Presentation of Our Lady and Our Lady receiving Communion from St John.
Between these is a rim of engraved silver with grapes & vine leaves in the design, with more fine filigree work above.
The circular stem has a central circular knop. The knop has more contrasting silver engraving worked round, with fine beading.
The hexafoil petalled base has three more roundel finely engraved images. These depict Christ reading the Scriptures, Christ Teaching in the Temple and the descent from the Cross.
Overall Height to top of cross 30.5cm. Diameter of base 15.5cm; diameter of top of bowl 12cm. Internal depth of bowl 6.5cm. Overall weight 801g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
