Antique 19th century French Gothic Ciborium Ref 6557
French Gothic style Ciborium from the late 19th century in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Made by the French Silversmith Leon Kaeppler, who worked in Paris from 1882 onwards.
Hallmarked throughout with the French silver hallmark, and with the maker's name on all parts.
The calix on the cup is finished with filigree work set with coloured stones. There are three coloured enamels depicting the Pious Pelican, the birds drinking from the Cup of Salvation, and a Gothic style cross.
The lid to the Ciborium is also finished with filigree work and stones. It has three further enamels illustrating instruments of the Passion including the ladder, spear, hammer, nails, dice.
The hexagonal stem leads to the Knop which is set with six Amethysts surrounded with beading work.
The six petalled base has more filigree work with stones. Three further enamels depict The Scared Heart of Jesus, Our Lady and St Joseph.
Overall Height to top of cross 33cm. Diameter of base 16.5cm. Diameter of bowl 12cm. Inside depth of bowl 8cm. Overall weight 1,084g.
