Antique Baroque Passion Chalice and Paten Ref 7790
Early 19th century French Passion Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice was made by the French Silversmith Joseph-Philippe-Adolphe Dejean who worked in Paris between 1846-1865.
Both the Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and the maker's marks also.
The Calix is made in rich baroque decorative work, and has three large roundels depicting The Holy Family.
The circular stem is decorative and has the large knop at its centre, with Eucharistic themes of grapes, wheat & bulrushes.
The circular base has three large raised scenes, depicting The Last Supper, Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane, and The Crucifixion.
The lower part of the base is shaped, and has numerous raised Cherub heads all round. Between these are angels holding various Instruments of the Passion, including the ladder, the hammer and nails, the sponge, the whip, the vinegar jug.
Chalice comes with solid silver gilt well-design Paten which fits the Chalice well. The centre of Paten has a large raised IHS and cross design with crown of thorns round the edge.
Chalice Height 34cm. Base diameter 17cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 17cm. Overall weight 935g.
Complete with brand new lined, fitted carrying case.
