Antique Baroque Chalice and Paten Ref 7908
19th century French Chalice and Paten in Baroque style made in solid silver gilt.
The Chalice was made by the French Silversmith Joseph-Philippe-Adolphe Dejean who worked in Paris between 1846 and 1865.
The Chalice and Paten have the French silver hallmark of the period, and both pieces bear the maker's mark also.
The Calix has three shaped oval images depicting The Holy Family, with rich baroque style decoration between.
The circular stem has a large central knop set with three raised winged Cherub heads with baroque style scrollage work between.
The circular base has three large scenes, depicting The Nativity, The Crucifixion and The Descent from the Cross.
The edge of the base is worked in a decorative shape with fluted edging. Set round this edge are three pairs of raised winged cherub heads, with further decoration between.
Chalice comes with matching solid silver gilt well-design Paten. The centre of Paten has a large raised scene of the Supper at Emmaus, surrounded with beading.
Chalice Height 32cm. Base diameter 17.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 18cm. Overall weight 823g.
Complete with original mushroom shaped lined carrying case.
