Antique Gothic Chapel Set Ref 7654 - comprising Chalice & Paten, Cruets, and Sanctus Bell
Antique French Gothic Chapel Set in solid silver. The set comprises Chalice with Paten, pair of Cruets with Tray, Sanctus Bell.
All pieces in the set are made from solid silver, they are hallmarked with the French hallmark of the period and bear the maker's initials 'FHM'.
The set is partly gilded and partly in contrasting silver tones throughout.
The Gothic style Chalice has a calix made in silver and gilt contrast.
The circular stem is set with several rims of beading, in the middle is the decorative knop.
The hexafoil petalled base has more contrasting silver and gilt work, with Gothic style roundels on three petals, and gold crosses between.
The edge of the base has lattice work and fine beading to the bottom edge.
The matching dish design Paten has a finely engraved Gothic IHS & is gilded all over.
The height of the Chalice is 25cm; the diameter of the base is 15.5cm; the diameter of the top of the cup is 10.5cm.
The diameter of the Paten is 16cm. The overall weight of the Chalice and Paten is 681g.
The cruets and tray are finished in the same two tone style. All three pieces are made in solid silver throughout.
The two identical cruets have the same decorative themes as the Chalice, and a hexafoil petalled base.
The tray continues the same themes with two tone decoration and beading round the shaped edge.
The tray measures 30.5cm x 17cm at the maximum points. The cruets measure 18cm in height. The overall weight of the Cruets with the tray is 705g.
The Sanctus Bell is also made in hallmarked solid silver, and has the same two tone gilt and silver finish as the other pieces.
The bell measures 11.5cm in height by 6cm in diameter at the base. It weighs 122g.
The overall total weight of the whole set is 1,508g.
The set comes complete with the original lined, fitted case to incorporate the whole set.
