Antique Gothic Chapel Set Ref 7994 - comprising Chalice & Paten, with Cruets and tray.
19th century French Gothic Chapel Set in solid silver gilt. The set comprises Chalice with Paten and pair of Cruets with Tray.
The set was made by the French Silversmiths Favier Freres, a well respected family of silversmiths in 19th century France.
All the pieces are made in solid silver, gilded all over. There are the maker's marks and French hallmark of the period. The cruets are part crystal.
The set is finished with decorative and filigree work, coloured enamels and stones.
The Gothic style Chalice has a calix made in filigree work with three oval shaped coloured enamels depicting Faith, Hope and Charity with coloured stones set between.
The engraved hexagonal stem leads to the decorative knop, which is set with six round circular enamels with Gothic style coloured crosses.
The hexafoil petalled base is decorated throughout.
Three petals have coloured oval shaped enamels depicting The Garden of Gethsemane, The Scourging at the Pillar and The Crucifixion.
The remaining three petals are finished with flowers, each set with a coloured stone at the centre.
The matching well design Paten has engraving to the centre incorporating PAX, Alpha and Omega. It fits the Chalice well.
The height of the Chalice is 26cm; the diameter of the base is 16.5cm; the diameter of the top of the cup is 10cm.
The diameter of the Paten is 16cm. The overall weight of the Chalice and Paten is 710g.
The cruets are made in crystal with silver gilt casing work, base, top, lid and handle.
The silver casing is gilded all over. The respective cruets are finished with grapes and bulrushes to differentiate them.
The tray is gilded all over. It is finished with decorative work all round the edge, incorporating grapes and flowers.
The tray measures 27cm x 18.5cm at the maximum points. The cruets measure 16.5cm in height. The overall weight of the Cruets with the tray is 675g.
The overall total weight of the whole set is 1,385g.
The set comes complete with the original lined, fitted case to incorporate the whole set.
