Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 7987
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Made in early 20th century France, the Chalice bears the maker's initials 'FFD'.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both pieces bear their respective maker's marks.
The calix has three roundels illustrating Instruments of the Passion, including The Crown of Thorns, Nails, Ladder, Spear and Sponge, Pincers, Hammer.
The circular stem and knopw are finished with fine engraving.
The hexafoil petalled based has three quatrefoil shaped roundels depicting further instruments of the Passion, including The Ladder, Spear, Sponge, Hammer and Pincers.
The base is finished with furthe decorative work and fine beading.
The blending well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It was made by the 19th century French Silversmith Berger-Nesme. It has a finely engraved cross design to the back. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 23cm. Base diameter 14cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 13.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 423g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying/storage case.
