Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8250
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten both made in France by the renowned French Silversmith Placide Poussielgue-Rusand (1824-1899).
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and have the Poussielgue-Rusand maker's mark.
The calix to the cup has six circular enamels, worked on deep blue, depicting Christ with various Saints.
The hexagonal stem is finished with Gothic style engraving. The central knop has six round lozenges, each finished with a colourful Gothic style enamel.
The base of the stem is finished with colourful Gothic style enamels lead down to the base.
The hexafoil petalled base is set with a circular enamel to each petal. These depict The Crucifixion, St Joseph, The Sacred Heart of Jesus, Our Lady, St Andrew and another Saint.
The base steps down to the bottom, with a Gothic style punched edge to the bottom step.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. It has a large enamel in the centre depicting The Last Supper.
Chalice height 24cm. Base diameter 13.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 736g.
Chalice has its original consecration certificate dated 30th January 1906.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying/storage case with brass fixings.
