Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8373
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice and Paten made in France by the French Silversmith Placide Poussielgue-Rusand of Paris (1824-1889),a highly renowned Ecclesiastical Silversmith of the 19th Century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is made in fine filigree work. It is set with small blue and clear stones all round.
The circular stem leads to the decorative knop. The knop is set with fine filigree work, and four stones, edged with fine beading.
The hexafoil petalled base has fine filigree work to each petal. The three larger petals each have a blue and gold enamel, these depict Christ the Good Shepherd, St Joseph, and Our Lady and Child.
The base is finished with oval coloured stones to the smaller petals.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt. it has a very fine engraving of the Holy Face to the centre, surrounded with Gothic engraving. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 23.5cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 670g.
Complete with original lined fitted storage case.
