Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 8763

Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by highly renowned French Silversmith Armand-Calliat of Lyon (1822-1901).
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is decorated all round with foliate designs. Three pointed oval enamels worked in turquoise shades depict Our Lady & Child, St Joseph and Our Lord.
The hexagonal shaped stem is finished with floral engraving and decoration. The central knop has six diamond shaped coloured enamels worked with fine Gothic style crosses.
The hexafoil petalled base has three further large pointed oval enamels of saints including St John the Evangelist and St Mary Magdalene.
The remaining three petals are finished with bunches of grapes and foliage.
The edge of the base steps down with fine beading work to the edges.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a fine engraving of The Victorious Lamb to the centre.
Chalice height 25cm. Base diameter 14.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 969g.
Complete with original lined, fitted carrying case.
