Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 9067

Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the silversmith Marie Thierry, who worked in Paris from 1853-1885.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is in filigree work, finished round the top with decorative scallops, each set with a small coloured stone.
Below this, a line in blue Gothic enamelled text reads 'Hic est enim calix sanguinis mei+'.
On the lower part of the calix are 3 circular coloured enamels, depicting Our Lord, Our Lady and St Peter. Between these are three large oval amethysts.
The hexagonal stem is engraved. The central hexagonal knop has six coloured round stones set round.
The hexafoil petalled base has three large circular coloured enamels depicting The Annunciation, The Crucifixion and The Holy Trinity.
On the remaining three petals is an engraved roundel, set with a central stone.
The edge of the base has decorative punched work as it steps down.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has a fine engraving of The Agnus Dei to the centre, surrounded with the text 'Hic est panis qui de caelo descendit'
Chalice height 24cm. Base diameter 15.5cm. Diameter of top of cup 9.5cm. Diameter of Paten 15.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 908g.
Complete with lined, fitted carrying case.
