Antique French Gothic Chalice Ref 9121
Antique French Gothic Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt.
Chalice & Paten made by the French Silversmiths Favier Freres who worked in France in the second half of the 19th century.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The calix to the cup is set with three raised figures depicting Faith, Hope and Charity. Between these are decorative Gothic style crosses.
The hexagonal stem is engraved throughout. The central hexafoil knop has six diamond shaped coloured Gothic style enamels.
The base is in hexafoil pointed shape, decorated throughout. Three large raised statues depict The Holy Family. Between these is floral decoration throughout. A blue enamelled cross sits below the figure of Christ.
The edge of the base steps down with fine engraving work and beading.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well. It has an engraved design of the Agnus Dei to the centre.
Chalice height 26cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 10cm. Diameter of Paten 14.5cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 865g.
