Antique French St Remy Chalice Ref 8708
Antique French Romanesque Chalice and Paten in solid silver gilt in the St Remy design.
Chalice & Paten made in France by the French Silversmith Berger Nesme, who worked in Lyon in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Both pieces are made in solid silver, gilded with contrasting silver pieces throughout.
Both are hallmarked with the French silver hallmark of the period and both have the maker's mark.
The St Remy Chalice is an ancient 12th century Romanesque style Chalice, and it is this design which this Chalice is based on.
The Chalice and Paten are mainly gilded, with contrasting panels worked in silver.
There is engraving and fine filigree work to finish the designs.
The wide Romanesque style cup has a calix with two tone finish throughout.
The circular stem has a large central circular knop with more diamond shaped silver panels set round.
The circular base has panels of plain gilt alternating with engraved silver panels.
The matching well shaped Paten is also made in solid silver gilt and fits the Chalice well.
It has a large cross design worked in contrasting silver to the centre.
Chalice height 17cm. Base diameter 14cm. Diameter of top of cup 13cm. Diameter of Paten 15cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 914g.
Complete with lined, fitted carrying case.
