Irish Sterling Silver Gilt Chalice & Paten Ref 8965
Irish Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver.
Chalice made in Dublin, 1921, by Larry Gunning. The Chalice is hallmarked with the Irish sterling silver hallmarks, and bears the maker's name.
The blending Paten is also sterling silver, made in London 1955 by AR Mowbray & Co Ltd. It also has its English sterling silver hallmarks and maker's mark.
The calix to the cup of the Chalice is finished with fine engraving all over. The top of the calix is festooned, finished with fine beading.
There are 6 tear drop shaped amethysts and 6 small circular amethysts set into the calix.
The circular stem has a central knop with engraving and six further amethysts. Rows of beading finish the stem.
The hexafoil petalled base is richly engraved. Designs incorporated into the engraving are Cross, Immaculate Heart of Mary, Sacred Heart of Jesus, IHS, St Patrick and St Brigid of Kildare.
The edge of the base steps down with the six petals sitting flat. Each petal has a large oval amethyst at the centre, with two smaller stones to each side.
Beading finishes the very bottom edge of the base.
The blending well shaped Paten is in solid silver, gilded all over. It fits the Chalice well.
Chalice height 26.5cm. Base diameter 16cm. Diameter of top of cup 9cm. Diameter of Paten 14cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 904g.
Chalice comes complete with original lined, fitted carrying case.
