Sterling Silver Gothic Chalice & Paten Ref 6444 by John Hardman
English Gothic Chalice & Paten in solid sterling silver.
Chalice & Paten made in Birmingham, England, in 1861, by the renowned Silversmiths John Hardman & Co., who worked closely with the 19th century architect, Pugin.
Chalice and Paten are both hallmarked with English sterling silver hallmarks and the maker's name.
The bowl shaped cup is plain, and is gilded on the inside.
The stem is hexagonal in shape, and leads to the knop which is decorated with Gothic style engravings and raised lozenges.
The petalled base in six sided. It is finisehd wtih engraving & fine beading work to the edge.
The matching dish shaped Paten is in solid silver, gilded all over, and has an engraved Gothic style cross to finish one petal.
Chalice height 16.5cm. Base diameter 10cm. Diameter of top of cup 8cm. Diameter of Paten 12cm. Overall weight of Chalice & Paten 259g.
Complete with lined, fitted carrying case.
