Antique solid silver Sunburst Monstrance Ref 8724
Solid silver gilt 19th century French sunburst Monstrance, complete with solid silver Lunette, Standing Pyx and original carrying case.
Made by the French Silversmiths, Jamain and Chevron who worked in Paris between 1865 and 1879.
In addition to the maker's mark, the Monstrance and Lunette are hallmarked with the French 19th century silver mark.
This is a richly decorated sunburst style Monstrance, finished with numerous enamels, large coloured stones and decorative work
The sunburst is surmounted with a facia with four large semi-circular enamels, depicting the Four Evangelists, worked on a deep blue background.
Between these are four large green oval shaped stones, with bunches of grapes worked in silver.
Around the central gloria, is a circle of diamante stones
The sunburst is surmounted with a large decorative cross, with an enamelled Agnus Dei to the centre, and clear stones surrounding it.
The reverse side of the sunburst is finished with the same facia, worked in filigree, with grapes and decorative work.
The circular stem is finished with fine engraving work. The large central knop is finished with four circular Gothic style enamels, with red/green crosses on a blue background.
Between these are set four large red oval stones, surrounded by engraving work.
The quatrefoil shaped base is richly decorated with grapes and decorative work.
On each petal is a large circular colourful enamel of an Angel, set in a beaded surround.
The Monstrance stands on four decorative feet.
The Monstrance comes complete with solid silver Lunette, enclosed with glass.
The standing Pyx is gilded all over, and the Lunette fits it perfectly. It has an engraved Gothic cross to the front. The height of the Pyx is 14cm.
The Monstrance height is 85cm. The width across the sunburst top is 40cm & the base is 29cm across the maximum points. The internal diameter of the Lunette is 7.5cm. The weight of the Monstrance is 2,650g.
The Monstrance has its original lined, storage case.
